Course Structure:

Setting High Expectations, Communicating Clear Objectives, and Encouraging Thoughtful Participation

I hand out Syllabi/Course Expectations, at the start of each school year to outline the course material and, more importantly, communicate high standards and expectations.  Selected examples:

I created this Communication & Participation Rubric, which I use in all classes to help students develop problem-solving skills and critical thinking strategies, and to help students engage in productive dialogue about mathematics:

I post Unit Objectives on the course websites and hand out a hard copy to all students at the beginning of each unit.  For example, please see the Functions & Trig webpage.

I consistently write the Daily Objectives and Essential Questions on the board, and students take turns recording this information on the class website. This allows the students (and me) to look back, at any time, and see what we have done in each class and if we have accomplished our main objectives for the unit.  For example, please see the log from the Honors Pre-Calculus webpage.

Homework is assigned on a regular basis, and posted on the class webpages.  For my AP class, I post a calendar of assignments in advance for each unit.  For example, please see the AP Calculus BC webpage.
